Buying an air conditioner is perhaps the most popular individual response to climate change, and air conditioners are almost exclusively high drain devices: a small cooling unit in one piece, on average, consumes more energy than four refrigerators running, while a CPU cooling an average home consumes more energy than 15. “Last year in Beijing, during a heat wave, 50% power capacity was air conditioning, “said John Dulac, an analyst at the international energy Agency (IEA). “These are ‘oh shit times. “There are a little over 1 billion unique air conditioning units in the world right now-about one in seven people on earth.

Once a year, our team at ElectroDry Aircon Cleaning can stop by, to make sure nothing is loose or malfunctioning, and clean your unit the way it is meant to be cleaned so it is ready for next season.

Is Air Conditioning Bad for the Environment?

In our new Glasgow office, we immediately installed four air conditioning units. Why? They are more efficient and consume less energy than central heating that was in place before. They cut our energy bills and make our office a better place to work. Others rely on inefficient fans and portable air conditioning consumes a lot of energy to cool in summer, but our system A-rated does the job properly without any hassle.

Heating, cooling and ventilation account for more than half of the energy consumption of the average building. It makes sense to get the most effective system for you. If this involves the installation or renovation of an air conditioning system, it will not be bad for the environment.

According to government statistics, buildings account for 43% of carbon emissions in the UK. Make your building as efficiently as possible with the will to bring this down.

As an incentive to improve energy efficiency in buildings, the British government introduced the Enhanced Capital Allowance (ECA) Scheme. Companies can benefit from tax relief by installing products that specific energy-saving criteria meet. These are collected in the Energy Technology List and include air conditioning units and HVAC related systems. Air conditioning is a recognized way of reducing energy consumption in the UK.

How Bad Is Your Air-Conditioner for the Planet?

More than half of the country had temperatures in the 90’s last week, prompting many people to find relief in the cool, crisp breeze from an air conditioner.

But over the next few years, air conditioners could change the way you work. Last month, representatives from nearly 200 countries have been working on a new environmental agreement to regulate the use of HFCs, or hydrofluorocarbons. These chemicals are responsible for keeping you cool on hot summer days, in air conditioners and refrigerators. And even if you might not have heard of them, environmentalists, government and scientific leaders say a limited HFCs agreement represents an important step in the fight to avoid the worst effects of global warming.

That’s because, like other greenhouse gases, HFCs contribute to global warming. But mostly, they do not come out of your air conditioner, although the AC causes other environmental problems. So we are here to answer some of the questions you may have about HFC, air conditioning, and this new agreement.
